BIO
Creating in clay has been my creative passion for 30 years. My artistic spirit has always demanded that I be creating something with my hands. My work is strongly influenced by natural organic forms, bridging art and nature.
My first foray into 3D art began with classes in Basketry, with emphasis on collecting and utilizing natural materials.
I found my way to the ceramics studio in the 90’s, taking classes in the fundamentals of design with emphasis on ceramics. Here I gained technical skills as a ceramic artist and design principles with attention to form and structure. I continued to advance my skills and expand my knowledge base by attending national and international workshops.
I was invited to teach ceramics @ Edmonds College in 2010 and taught for 10 yrs. This honed my appreciation for “solving design challenges” as I assisted my students in accomplishing their creative goals.
Recently my focus has turned to “Statement Work”, producing pieces that have their own voice.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My current direction represents expressions of my own life and journey with themes revolving around the pandemic, cancer, and world politics. My functional art continues to mimic the natural organic world with use of earth tone colors and embellishment with natural materials.
